Peak Pruritus Numerical Rating Scale
The Peak Pruritus Numerical Rating Scale is a single 0 to 10 rating of worst itch over the previous 24 hours, for clinician review. This page is catalogue information. It does not order blood tests.
Overview
What is the Itch NRS?
The Peak Pruritus NRS asks for the itch at its worst moment during the previous 24 hours, from 0 (no itch) to 10 (worst itch imaginable). It is not a dermatology diagnosis, not a 5-D Itch scale, and not a laboratory algorithm.
Development and clinical use
Yosipovitch and colleagues validated the Peak Pruritus NRS in 2019. The HOME initiative recommends it as the core instrument for itch intensity in eczema.

Methodology
Understand the measure and its scoring conventions
The recorded value is the single 0 to 10 rating the client gives. The Peak Pruritus NRS defines no severity bands, so the rating is stored as given.
